Life through a lens?

You know when you’re super-duper tired and you’re lying in bed trying to sleep but really your brain is going overdrive thinking about how life exists and why humans feel things etc…?

I think most people can all relate to it (although last time it happened I was thinking of parodies of songs that link to the titanic… I won’t go into that), but what’s pretty cool is you can come up with some really interesting stuff.

FUN FACT: OUR BRAINS ARE MORE CREATIVE LATE IN THE DAY (if you sleep like a normal person), BECAUSE WHEN WE ARE TIRED OUR BRAINS ARE NOT AS GOOD AT FILTERING OUT DISTRACTIONS ALLOWING OUR MINDS TO RUUUUNNNNNN FREE. IT’S ALSO A LOT LESS EFFICIENT AT REMEMBERING CONNECTIONS BETWEEN IDEAS AND CONCEPTS THEREFORE ALLOWING US TO BE OPEN TO NEW IDEAS, AND THINK IN NEW WAYS.

[sorry about block capitals n stuff it makes it seem a bit intense…]

Anyway, something I was thinking about a few days ago, is that you’ve only ever seen yourself reflected in a pane of glass, or captured by a camera lens. So, maybe this SOUNDS obvious, because it is. But what I’m trying to get at, is you’ve only seen the physical you. You don’t get to see it when an emotion is captured on your face. The real, inside you that your friends like you for. People don’t pick you for how you look. If that’s the only reason they like you then I’d say they aren’t really friends at all (sorry guys).

Your actions and behavior when you meet somebody, defines how you look to them. You’ve never seen the way your eyes light up when you’re talking about something you love, you’ve never seen the way your face turns red when you’re laughing so hard that you cry. You haven’t seen how peaceful and gentle (or not, as sometimes is the case) you look when you’re fast asleep. And when you’re singing at the top of your voice, yelling at the sky without a care in the world with somebody who MEANS the world to you, then that is what they see when they look at you. Your Facebook profile picture? That’s not the real you- and you’ll never really see the real you. Whenever you stare in the mirror or turn on a video recorder, you immediately stop being who you really are and start acting how you imagine you are. It’s just a thing that humans do.

Never look at yourself and think “Oh God, I look disgraceful today… This hair is out of place. This sock is a fraction of a shade lighter than the other. My eyebrows are HIGHER UP THAN THEY USED TO BE!!!!!!!” [shock horror…], because honestly, your friends, and everybody who cares about you, DON’T CARE. When you meet someone and get to know their personality, you get a fixed image of them. Tiny everyday changes like hair growing is unseen. Think about it, whenever your parents take you on your annual trip to see your Great Auntie Janice (or any other equivalent), you always tend to hear the well known phrase “My, you’ve grown!”. But people who see you on a daily basis don’t notice. Little differences that occur from Monday to Sunday (like a spot on your chin or something) are NOT noticeable, so don’t let it make you feel insecure:)

POSITIVE THOUGHT FOR THE WEEEEK: Whenever you look in the mirror or at a photo of yourself, it is just a being. No thoughts, feelings, emotions. When you come to life you are 100x more absolutely you.
p.s. I won’t do this every week.

Right. I think I’m done now trying to tell humanity how lovely they really are… Time to go steal someone’s cat.

Enjoy the rest of this bank holiday,
Shmelted x
